Our Election Court Lunch will be held in the impressive setting of “87 Barts Close”,
the Worshipful Company of Butchers’ Hall at 87 Bartholomew Close, London EC1A 7EB
The guest speaker will be the Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Michael Mainelli.
He will be sharing his vision for a growing, prosperous and sustainable future,
and the importance of water and the environment,
and sustainable development
to the future prosperity of the City of London and the country.
He will be accompanied by the Lady Mayoress, Elisabeth Mainelli, Sheriff and Alderwoman, Dame Susan Langley, DBE and Gary Langley.
Reception drinks will be served from 12.15 p.m. to 12.40 p.m. followed by lunch and the traditional offering of the Stirrup Cup.

Michael Mainelli
Originally a research scientist in aerospace and computing, Michael became a senior partner with accountants BDO Binder Hamlyn and later Corporate Development Director for the Defence Evaluation & Research Agency. During time with Deutsche Morgan Grenfell, he co-founded Z/Yen in 1994, the City’s leading think-tank, promoting societal advance through better finance and technology, renowned for its Global Financial, Green Finance, and Smart Centres indices. Michael chairs Z/Yen Group, FS Club, and Esop (employee share ownership) Centre. He is non-executive director of an AIMlisted mining firm and the United Kingdom Accreditation Service.
He has served as Alderman for Broad Street since 2013 and as Sheriff of the City of London 2019-2021. He has been a Past Master of the World Traders, Craft-Owning Freeman of the Watermen & Lightermen, Honorary Liveryman of multiple Livery Companies as well as Honorary Freeman of the Water Conservators, and member of the City Livery Club. He is the 695th Lord Mayor of the City of London.
87 Barts Close
Five of seven Halls of the Worshipful Company of Butchers were burned down, including one during the Great Fire of London in 1666. The fourth Hall, in Pudding Lane, was subject to a compulsory purchase order in 1883 when it was demolished to make way for the Metropolitan District Line. The Hall suffered considerable damage from a large bomb dropped from a Zeppelin in 1915 and again after a V1 bomb landed in the courtyard in July 1944. The current Hall was opened in 1960 and re-opened in September 2019 after a major multi-million pound refurbishment and retains many of its features.
The Great Hall features the fine Southland Beech donated by the New Zealand Government, stained glass windows, early 19th century chandeliers, the Vestey Tapestry (the largest in the City), and Canadian Maple flooring. The Court Suite includes Black Bean panelling donated by the Australian Government in front of a fine white marble fireplace made in Paris in 1794, while the reception area houses the Borthwick Screen donated by the family. Artwork donated by Past Master Michael Katz can be enjoyed next to the new Roof Garden.
