Professor Lorna Walker

Lorna is Managing Director of Lorna Walker Consulting Ltd. and a former Director of Ove Arup & Partners.
She is a Chartered Chemist and qualified Civil Engineer and has led and participated in specialist and multi-disciplinary teams on a range of projects, from feasibility studies to project commissioning in the UK, Europe, Africa and East Asia.
A recognised authority in the fields of sustainable development, urban regeneration, water quality and waste treatment, Lorna is a member of a number of policy-making panels in the waste treatment and remediation industry. She is often consulted in the preparation of proofs of evidence, as an expert witness, for planning enquiries and litigation cases, and as an independent technical reviewer of her peers' work,.
Lorna is currently a Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor in Engineering Design for Sustainable Development, at the University of Sheffield; a member of the FIDIC Sustainable Development Task Force; and sits on the judging panel of the ODPM Sustainable Communities Award panel. In March 2006 the UK Department of Culture, Media and Sport appointed Lorna as Commissioner Elect for CABE (Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment.
In her rare moments of leisure, she enjoys travelling, gardening reading - and sleeping, if she gets the chance.
